Now I am off to JoAnn's to purchase batting and muslin to staple on. I plan to just screw this into my old ironing board for now. I am wrapping the plywood with heavy duty aluminum foil for protection. I don't know if that is necessary, but I don't want to take a chance.

I'm interested in this project. Will you place it over your regular ironing board or on a table? I will watch for details and pictures.
You'll love the big board. My DH made one for me a few years ago, with plywood, and I stapled batting and the silver ironing surface fabric from JoAnn's. My husband put cleats (4) on the underside to keep it in place on the ironing boeard, but I can take it off when I need to move it.

I made a big board as well and it just lays on top of my ironing board. It is so heavy that it doesn't move and if I need to use my regular ironing board, I just lift the big board off and I'm good to go.
You will find a big difference in ironing fabric and extra wide is a breeze to do.
